COMMUNITY SOUP KITCHEN
Adas Yoshuron sponsors the Community Soup Kitchen at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland on the first Sunday of each month. Members plan the meal, purchase the food, prepare it and clean up after. Soup Kitchen is a family affair. Our children participate, and it is a tradition that the Hebrew School children host one of the lunches themselves. Scroll down to see announcements of the yearly Easter and Christmas Community Dinners we have sponsored. These holiday dinners are especially rewarding for our volunteers, who enjoy setting beautiful tables with fresh flowers and serving a sumptuous feast while other Soup Kitchen organizers celebrate at home with their families. We generally serve 30 to 40 people. Setup begins at 12:15 p.m. and we serve the meal at 1:00 p.m. Clean-up is complete by 2:15 p.m. To volunteer or to offer to contribute items to the Soup Kitchen, contact Soup Kitchen Coordinator Linda Garson Smith by contacting the synagogue office (207-594-4523) or emailing soupkitchen@adasyoshuron.org. New participants are always welcome. See Community Soup Kitchen under How-To for information about how our members run the Soup Kitchen.
