Unaffiliated. All-inclusive. The heart of Mid-Coast Maine's Jewish community — since 1912.
Adas Yoshuron has been the heart of midoast Maine’s Jewish community since 1912 (see History). We are unaffiliated and egalitarian, and this autonomy gives us a unique and vibrant spiritual identity. Our congregation is a diverse group. We are singles, couples, and families; we are all ages, from young families to elders; we are summer folk and locals; and we are people new to the area as well as long-established families representing two, three, even four generations of Rockland’s Jewish community. We represent a wide range of Jewish experience. This diversity gives us both a strong sense of history and tremendous vitality.
In addition to Shabbat services, we provide dynamic weekly Hebrew School classes and Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation; engage in Books & Bagels, a monthly discussion of Jewish books; focus on social action through several committees, including serving at our local Community Soup Kitchen. All are welcome to our High Holy Days services, Purim festivities, community seders, Hanukkah parties, and life-cycle events, including weddings, baby namings and funerals. Members of our community who are not Jewish are always welcome to attend our events and services.
Adas Yoshuron is in a residential neighborhood, on Willow Street in Rockland (see Directions). The sanctuary is on the first floor, and additional seating is in the second-floor balcony. There is combined seating for approximately 175 people.
Downstairs is a multipurpose room, which provides space for meetings, events, ritual meals, our Hebrew School and adult education. The room includes our library and a supply of essential items for sale. The kitchen and a restroom are also located downstairs.
